Anna Goldthorpe Studio Policy 2016
Lessons will be either thirty minutes, forty-five or one hour in length. Private lessons focus primarily on technique and repertoire as well as musicianship and creative skills. Please remember that this time is reserved each week specifically for you or your child and should be treated like any other appointment. Please make it a priority and schedule your other appointments and events around this weekly time.
Consistent practice at home is crucial for you or your child's success. I recommend at least 5 days a week of practice at home. Short daily practice sessions are more effective than one or two long sessions per week. If you are a parent of an elementary age student, please help them create a weekly practice schedule and stick to it. It is very beneficial to them for you to sit with them for at least part of the practice session at home. If you have trouble getting your child to practice, consider implementing a reward system for every week they practice for 5 days a week. I often do practice challenges to motivate them to practice more.
Students are expected to attend each scheduled week of the semester. When you register for lessons, your timeslot is reserved for you for the teaching year. Please keep in mind that our studio operates at full capacity and make-ups for missed lessons are not guaranteed. No refunds will be given for missed lessons.
In the event that your student needs to miss a lesson because of a conflict or illness, please contact me with as much advance notice as possible. I will post cancellations on our website (visit http://annagoldthorpemusic.mymusicstaff.com for current openings). You can login to my studio site with your login details and password and access my calendar. Here you can reserve any time that says open lesson. You do not need to use the makeup credit in the same month. You can apply it to any future makeup lesson.
Any lessons missed by the instructor due to illness or emergency will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
Please be prompt – lesson times cannot be extended for students who arrive late. Students should be picked up promptly at the end of their lesson time.
Siblings who are waiting for lessons are required to be supervised by a parent in your car or you can drop one sibling off and return with the other sibling. Older siblings who do well working quietly may sit in my studio and work on homework quietly while I am teaching their sibling (only one at a time please). Due to liability reasons I cannot allow siblings to go unattended in my home while I am teaching a lesson. This is also my home and my husband and children need their privacy while I am teaching and cannot be expected to watch other children.
Summer lessons are scheduled on a by-the-lesson basis. Students should expect to continue lessons on at least a part-time schedule through the summer to maintain the skills they develop through the school year. Students who do not enroll for summer lessons are not guaranteed a spot in the studio for the next year
TUITION & FEES:
30 minute Lesson (for ages 3-7/Beginners only) $20
45 minutes Lesson (for ages 8- Adult/Intermediates only) $25
60 minutes Lesson (for ages 13-Adult/Intermediate to advanced) $35
Students will need to purchase method books and sheet music on occasion throughout the year. Books may be purchased from the studio. Additional event fees may be required for festivals, competitions and other performance events.
Statements will be emailed prior to the first week of each month with a reminder of current tuition charges, as well as any additional material or event fees.
Students should plan to commit to lessons for the full school year. If unforeseen circumstances require a student to terminate lessons mid-year, one month’s paid notice is required to end lessons.
Please make checks payable to Anna Goldthorpe. Lessons will be billed on a monthly basis at the beginning of each month. Checks/Cash should be remitted at the first lesson each month and will total the cost of the number of lessons to be taken during the month. I cannot teach lessons if payment is not received at the beginning of the month. Payment is considered late if not received on the first lesson of the month. Late payments will be issued a late fee of $25. I will give you one grace period for late payments.
Lessons canceled with twenty-four (24) hours advance notice will be rescheduled schedule permitting. Students are responsible to pay for lessons canceled without twenty-four hours’ notice. No refund will be given for no-shows or tardiness. If you think you will be delayed, please call to let me know if you will be coming. To reschedule a make-up lesson, simply login to my studio website http://annagoldthorpemusic.mymusicstaff.com, then access the calendar and you can enter your child’s name in any slot that says open lesson. I run a tight schedule and cannot guarantee many openings.
STUDIO PHONE: The Studio phone number is (208)819-2339. Please feel free to call between the hours of 9AM and 6PM if you have any cancellations, questions, or need to arrange a conference. If I am teaching or out when you call, an answering machine will take your message. You may also contact me at email@example.com.
All students must have the proper instrument at home to practice on. The quality of your instrument does affect your student’s success.
If learning piano, please have a full-size keyboard (88-keys), and pedals. A metronome will be essential for at home practice. These cost around $7-30 depending on the style or brand you chose. I can help you select the proper type to buy.
Guitarists will need either an acoustic or electric guitar at home. There are a number of quality brands out there that aren't too expensive. If you go with an electric, you will also need to purchase an amp. You will also need a metronome and capo for at home practice.
Photos of students and video and audio recordings of student projects and performances may be posted online and used by the instructor for promotional and workshop materials. Identifying information will be excluded or limited to first names only. Parents wishing to exempt their students from any published media may do so by providing a written exclusion request.
It is my sincerest hope that you understand the necessity of establishing a STUDIO POLICY. If you have questions regarding this policy don't hesitate to call.
Welcome to the Studio!
